They seem to have put their resources into winnable wards (I live in the Brinnington ward where they’ve retreated from – no printed material since May 2010 – despite winning the ward in the same previous stage of the cycle). From the discussions and previous blog entries they also have/had shrewd operators that can put a spin on undesirable events.

The longstanding Labour councillors in the town don’t seem to have the same savvy but there seems a new breed of younger Labour members coming through who’ve ‘ ward hopped’ around in their campaigning. With it now being a national Labour initiative to get a foothold in ‘pavement’ campaigning to shape up better for future national campaigns, things may change.

That traditional Lib Dem preoccupation with Proportional Representation seems to be irrelevant to them as, with less than a third of the vote and in second place, they can effectively run the council under the ‘first past the post’ system. I’d guess that the solidity of their vote in Cheadle will see them hold on to that constituency in 2015, but it’ll be meltdown in North West Lab/Lib marginal like Manchester Withington.Mikenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1701192378438673089.post-72568279619990742032012-05-01T14:30:48.405-07:002012-05-01T14:30:48.405-07:00I think "King Billy of Stockport" and &q...I think "King Billy of Stockport" and "Agnostic Left" may be one and the same person given the trademark dodgy syntax, use of big words and :) text thingies.

At least debating with himself is keeping him out of mischief...

As to your predictions, spot on I thinkInformed Observernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1701192378438673089.post-35192215717514421712012-04-25T06:35:17.886-07:002012-04-25T06:35:17.886-07:00This what I blogged: "With an increasingly un...This what I blogged: "With an increasingly unpopular Coalition nationally and an increasingly unpopular Lib Dem controlled local council, Labour has an opportunity to push the Lib Dems close. In one blog you point to Cheadle Hulme North being a target seat in the other you agree it has no realistic chance so your classification of it as a target ward is at the very least a bit disingenuious given there are a number of other women candidates in wobbly liberal seats such as Hazel Grove on the list.
